Dextran Controller for Sugarcane Juice Processing

Managing Dextran for Better Sugar Processing

Dextran formation in sugarcane juice can lead to high viscosity, poor crystallization, and sucrose losses. Microbial activity, particularly from Leuconostocbacteria, can convert sucrose into dextran when cane is damaged, delayed in processing, or stored improperly.

These challenges can affect juice processing, evaporation, crystallization, sugar quality, and overall process efficiency. Effective dextran control is therefore important for maintaining smoother sugar processing.

Ecodex is a fungal dextranase enzyme obtained through controlled fermentation of Penicillium paecilomyces. It hydrolyses dextran into glucose, isomaltose, and iso-maltotriose, helping reduce viscosity and improve crystallization and evaporation efficiency.

FAQ's

Why does delayed cane crushing increase dextran formation?

Delayed processing encourages microbial growth, particularly Leuconostoc bacteria, which convert sucrose into dextran. ECODEX hydrolyzes this dextran into lower molecular weight sugars.

What improvements can I expect after controlling dextran?

Effective dextran control reduces juice viscosity, improves crystallization and evaporation, lowers sucrose losses, and supports better ICUMSA values over prolonged use.

Can ECODEX help maintain smooth plant operation?

Yes. By reducing viscosity, ECODEX promotes smoother juice flow, more stable evaporation, and improved crystallization throughout the process.

How does Ecodex translate into value for the client relative to the investment made?

Every 1x invested in Ecodex delivers 6.0x in value, based on a 10,000 TCD plant, 5 ppm dosage, and 1 kg additional sugar recovery per tonne of cane.
